Exploring the Best Local Children's Events in 2026

Here in Greater Des Moines, it's simple to be a kid. Whether your idea of family fun is a skate park, a smash park, an amusement park, or an actual park, Des Moines is the perfect escape, no matter if you're young or simply young at heart.

Gee, what could be more enjoyable than spring break with the kids? Those gorgeous children leaping on the couch, battling with each other, making a mess everywhere they go. It's enough to drive a parent wild. So, leave the home. Here's a list of things you can do with the rugrats totally free, and they're fun, too.

The outdoor park is free to go to every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Free parking. The program "Planted Creations: Garden Art" is fun for grades 7-12 at the library. 4:30 -6 p.m. Decorate a terracotta pot with paint pens.

Activities take location at the nature. Free admission, however parking is $5.
